When you choose Pura Vida for addiction treatment services, you can expect a full continuum of care that includes residential detox, inpatient rehab and outpatient rehab. We give our clients the best chances for success by offering a wide range of therapies under one roof, as well as assistance with transitioning to their everyday lives.

Since the first step in the recovery process is detoxification, we wanted to spend a few minutes discussing this process and what you can expect from our treatment facility. Below are five important things to know about our detox rehab services in Santa Rosa CA.

1. We have a dedicated residential facility.

A major barrier to seeking help is withdrawal. By the time people are ready to accept help, many have already tried to stop on their own, and they have a general idea of how uncomfortable withdrawal can be. Naturally, this can deter them from starting the process again.

However, it’s important to know that detox is much more comfortable when you choose a medical detox facility. There are many therapies and medications that can be used to manage your symptoms, such as medicines to help you sleep and medicines to decrease cravings. This way, withdrawal symptoms will be easier to tolerate, and you can get through the detox process safely.

Additionally, having a dedicated residential facility ensures that you will be removed from your current environment. Even if you have a stable living environment, your triggers will still be present, making it difficult to get sober. Our detox facility is in a residential setting – not a medical setting – and includes six beds with TVs in the bedrooms, high speed WiFi and nutritious meals.

2. Outdoor recreation is included with detox.

When it comes to detox, many individuals envision themselves lying in a hospital bed for several days straight while they endure painful withdrawal symptoms. However, this is far from the case at Pura Vida. First, you get to detox in a residential setting with great food and comfortable accommodations.

Second, you will have plenty to keep you busy, including counseling and time outdoors. Fresh air and Vitamin D are great for the soul, so we encourage our clients to start incorporating more of this into their daily routine. Some of the activities our clients get to enjoy are rock climbing, hiking, wakeboarding and boat rides. We want them to find joy outside of drugs and alcohol, and spending time in the California sun is a great way to do this.

3. Doctor supervision and 24-hour monitoring are available.

As you may already know, detox can be uncomfortable. But what many people don’t realize is that without the appropriate support, it can be life-threatening as well. For example, when you stop alcohol abruptly, it sends the body into a state of shock, potentially causing seizures, hallucinations and delirium tremens.

Benzodiazepine withdrawal can also be deadly, as stopping the drug can cause seizures and rhabdomyolysis, a condition where damaged muscle tissue releases proteins and electrolytes into the bloodstream, potentially leading to kidney failure. Regular monitoring ensures the safe withdrawal from benzodiazepines.

Pura Vida offers medical supervision and ‘round-the-clock monitoring for all clients.

4. Daily support groups and counseling are provided.

Aside from being able to spend time outdoors, you will also spend time in counseling. We have both daily groups and daily counseling, which will fill some of your time and start you with healthier habits. And, as you transition to an inpatient or outpatient program, you will feel more comfortable participating in therapy, as you’ll already have some experience under your belt.

We find that daily groups are important for our clients, as they are taking major steps in their journeys without having many tools or skills yet. Being around others who understand what they’re going through is incredibly powerful and affirming, reducing feelings of isolation and loneliness.

5. We accept health insurance.

Many medical detox facilities accept insurance, and Pura Vida is no exception. We accept most major health insurance, including Blue Cross Blue Shield, Anthem, Aetna, Cigna, Optum and Kaiser Permanente. However, keep in mind that each insurance carrier and plan is different.

To find out what costs are covered, you can contact our admissions department directly or contact your insurance company. Some plans will cover the bulk of treatment costs, while others will only cover a portion. You will also be responsible for covering your deductible, copays and coinsurance.
